Frequently Asked Questions
It's normal to have questions before trying something new.
Here you'll find answers to some of the most common questions about working with SAVE, what to expect, and how to know where to begin.
About Working With SAVE
Every session begins with a conversation about what you're experiencing and what you'd like to be different.
From there, we may use different approaches to help you explore and work with what you're experiencing.
The specific experience will depend on what you're working on, what emerges during the session, and what is appropriate for you.
SAVE uses an experiential approach that may draw from hypnotherapy, shadow work, parts work, inner-child work, somatic awareness, guided reflection, and other personal growth practices.
Not every approach is used in every session.
The work is guided by what you're bringing, how you're responding, and what may be most useful as the session unfolds.
No.
You remain involved in the process and can communicate what you're experiencing, ask questions, or let me know if something doesn't feel right for you.
The goal isn't to force an experience. It's to work with you as the session unfolds.
No.
You don't need to understand where something started or have your story completely figured out.
You can begin with what's happening now and what you'd like to change.
There isn't one number that applies to everyone.
Some people come to SAVE with one specific concern, while others choose to continue working on different patterns, goals, or areas of their lives over time.
Your First Session allows us to begin with the concern you're bringing now. If you'd like additional support afterward, we can discuss what options are available.
Questions About Hypnosis
Yes.
Hypnosis does not require you to become unconscious or unaware of what's happening around you.
People often experience hypnosis as a focused and relaxed state in which they can still hear, think, respond, and remain aware of the experience.
No.
Hypnosis isn't mind control. You don't give up your ability to think, choose, communicate, or stop participating.
You remain an active participant throughout the process.
You don't need to know how to “do hypnosis” before coming to SAVE.
People experience hypnosis differently. Some feel deeply relaxed, while others remain very aware of their thoughts, surroundings, or body.
There isn't one particular way hypnosis has to feel.
That's completely fine.
Many people come to their first session without having experienced hypnosis before. You'll have an opportunity to ask questions, and I'll explain what we're doing as we move through the session.

Norma Cohn is not a licensed medical or mental health provider, and SAVE does not diagnose or treat medical or mental health conditions.
In many situations, yes.
SAVE's services may be used alongside appropriate medical or mental health care but are not a replacement for that care.
Depending on what you're seeking support for, you may be encouraged to continue working with your licensed healthcare providers or, with your permission, coordination with another provider may sometimes be appropriate.
If what you're seeking support for appears to fall outside SAVE's professional scope or would be more appropriately supported by medical, psychiatric, psychological, crisis, or another specialized service, you may be encouraged to seek an appropriately licensed or specialized provider.
Your wellbeing and receiving the appropriate type of support are more important than trying to make SAVE the right service for every situation.
